Matauri Cattle Breeder's Mission Statement
To maximise the profitability and ease of management of our clients by supplying genetics that have evolved in a commercial farming environment.
It is of profound importance to us that we achieve sustained improvement and evolution in this breeding program and that the progress stems directly from the commercial disciplines that we impose on the breeding herd.

Matauri Breeding Philosophy
COMMERCIAL DISCIPLINES MUST APPLY AT ALL TIMES IN THE BREEDING PROGRAM
♦ Females are fed grass only and run on steep hill country.
♦ The herd is farmed at a relatively high stocking rate.
♦ Calving occurs in late spring so that cow/calf feed demand fits the natural grass growth curve.
♦ Heifers are mated as yearlings to calve as two year olds.
♦ All females must rear a live calf every year.
♦ NB Matauri heifers now calve unattended on steep hill country.
PHENOTYPE / STRUCTURAL SOUNDNESS / EBV's
At Matauri, phenotype and structural soundness, both rank above EBV's in importance within our selection process.
However we believe with the huge gene pool available to us now, that all of these three key elements can now be combined in the program with a minimal amount of compromise.
